Depending on the application you can however a remote oil cooler will be much more effective at lowering oil temps... especially if you do any type of autocross/road racing or just have a very fast street car. it also works better for hot climates as well.

the problem with the OEM coolant/oil cooler is you can only get oil temps as low as the coolant temp.. I'm sure you already know how hard it is to keep coolant temps low on high hp Hondas, add in the extra heat from the oil and it gets even harder.

any remote oil cooler you use needs to have a thermostat, especially if it's a street driven car. the thermostat keeps all of the oil from going through the cooler until it's up to temp then as the thermostat closes it directs more oil through the cooler up to 100%, the amount that passes through the cooler depends on how far closed the thermostat is, just like the coolant system. . this means the oil will warm up quicker and you'll have much more stable oil temps.

when the thermostat is open it still allows a small amount of oil to go through the cooler. this is to prevent thermal shock from cold oil entering the motor once the thermostat starts to close. thermal shock can kill a motor in a matter of seconds.
