240 SX
hey guys, i ran into some extra money and was thinking about picking up a 93 240SX hatchback. One of my friends has one with the sr20det motor in it making around 245hp. i will be keeping the R. What do you guys think ? you like the car ? think its fast ? ever had one ?

I had an 89 hatchback prior to the R and it was an awesome handling car. The engine is by far the weakest part of the package, so the SR20DET swap is a popular upgrade.
do it
I like the 97+ body styles the best and would love to have that as my next project.

I have a '90 240SX (Coupe - not hatch, somewhat rare
) and I was originaly going to do the SR20DET swap or even a Skyline R32 engine swap RBxx (I forgot the numbers
) but I never got around to it - now it's my beater! Anyway definatley do it! It's a sweet setup - especialy for drifting!!

If you have extra money, do it. Be carefull, the 240sx is just as much a money pit as the ITR due to the extreme popularity of the car in Japan. Don't fall into the "SR is god" fallacy. The KA motor can be effectively fast if modded properly. But my discussion ends there since the KA vs. SR debate has been going on forever.
I've liked the 240SX's styling of all generations, and with the SR20DET, it will be a beast. Without the SR20, it still will be fun to drive as it is RWD, but it doesn't have that much power (155HP in the newer ones). I've always read how the S15s (I think that's the code for the newer style) were incredible handlers though.

Do it, you'll have fun. I sold my R and got one soon afterwards.
Despite what many believe, the KA can be build quite nicely, I've seen a turbo'd KA w/ some mods make good #'s.
I'm going SR anyways
Good luck

Im not a trader, but Ive had a 240sx before, 91 hatch, and we have a 90 coupe right now. This can be by far a superior vehicle in power, handling, and stopping if done right....Im not starting a flame war, but I didnt expect immense support on the nismo end of this question.
240sx have a great weight balance ratio 53/47. The power from a SR20det stock is around 220'ish ....which is more then any B series stock. The RWD makes for great handling on a road course...with the right driver behind the wheel. The ITR is a FF vehicle and will always be EASIER to control by a novice driver, its much more forgiving, so often it will be looked at as superior handling....that is not the case, because the 240sx requires more effort and skill to whip around doesnt mean it handles worse....with the proper techniques and some time behind the wheel...you'll find you can make that thing sing around the curves, and blast down the straights....

thanks for all the support guys , thats awesome. i wasnt sure the outlook of this thread but im glad it turned out as it did. I drove his car and its pretty bad ***. i like my R better but just like the R the shifts feel nice and solid and everything seems to just work nice and smooth. i like that in a car. anyways i was looking at the 93 hatch model because it has the pop up lights and i have always liked them in a way ... i will be sure to keep you guys posted on the project. thanks for the support. im def. going to be doing the swap because one of my friends can get it for me for around 1300 bucks with under 20,000 miles on it. the only thing im not sure of is he said something about i cant put a new turbo on it. i will always have to stay with the stock turbo that comes with it. anybody know anything about that ?

My brothers 240 with sr20det motor is a blast to drive around. It is basically stock with a few bolt ons running on stock boost. Can't run higher boost until he gets high pressure connectors in the motor. Don't know how well it handles compared to a type r since i never drove one but no matter what you will have fun.
boost

A friend of mine has a 98 240SX, only mods being an Injen Intake and Falkne Azenis, which I recommended, and we will soon be swapping a Red Top SR20DET. I'm really excited and it's not even my car
It's already a great looking, great handling car, all it needs is the power.
