Hey guys i bought a del sol with a JDM D15B vtec swap in it. The guy had a P28 ecu in it. But i read online that the P08 is supposed to be for this engine. Will it really make a difference keeping the P28 that's already in it? Or should i just swap it out for a P08?

 

Good luck finding the P08 ecu. You should be running it though to run the motor properly. There are a few threads around the internet (saw one on desires.org recently) where people are making it work with other means.

 

There's not much difference in the fuel and timing maps as far as I can tell. The biggest difference is that a P08 is meant to use a single wire unheated O2 sensor.

For what it's worth I ran that engine with a P28 for 5 years and it always ran perfectly and got excellent fuel mileage.

 

If I may inquire, where are you finding the fuel and timing maps for the various ECUs? In all my searches I have never found any sort of repository for that valuable information.

 

I'm not. But you're looking at two engines that share the same head, cam, valve train, etc with a very, very similar bottom end. The maps aren't going to differ significantly.

You could go to pgmfi.org and find the .bin files and open them in crome and take a look at them though. Also, some of the differences you do find will be for differences in elevation and such between here and Japan.
