Default Basic hp increases?

Okay so here's the deal I just picked up a bone stock 91 ef sedan with about 148k miles. As you may have guessed, it's got the stock DPFI d15b2. 5 speed pretty great as far as I can tell. Now I'm not looking to build a track car here, but an extra 5-10hp here or there would be much appreciated! Looking for the most simple to the semi complex solutions to gain a little more "power" if you will. Any and every suggestion will be taken under consideration. So please keep the insults to a minimum if at all possible and have at it with the ideas/suggestions. I'm all ears! I've heard all sorts of mixed things about this intake or those headers or how this really won't gain hp. I just want some real answers from people who have real results. Thanks again fellas!!

Intake, Header, Exhaust, and a tune. That's the basics for power. Then mild suspension work goes miles for handling.

Power isn't cheap. What motor is it? Should be next to the distributor/exhaust manifold by the point where the motor/trans meet.

Mpfi swap before you do anything else...because without that, pretty much everything is a waste of money.

Thanks fellas!! And could you go just a tad bit more into detail about how a "tune" works? And going multi port/point or whatever the proper terminology is for it was my first thought!!

D-series guys use knock-off eBay header since there aren't many available. As for the catback exhaust, mandrel bends are your best bet. I'm not sure what the appropriate NA size would be, 2" or 2.5" probably.

My brother has a 91 EF sedan as well. I gave him the D16A6 and tranny out of my 1988 CRX Si and it is way faster than the D15. You could swap the engine cheaper than buying a header, intake, and exhaust.

I own a 91 hatch. I got it bone stock with the dual point. I did the multipoint my self and added the si tranny i was happy till i blew my motor then bought a d15b vtec and that lasted 3 months. I went be series with a ls cheap ebay mounts and cheap parts here and there. If i would have gon b series from the beginning i would have saves a lot of money. I did all my swaps so i saved a ton there as well.

Was talking too a classmate about an mpfi swap yesterday. In order to do that don't you have to change the ecu and are the injectors pretty simple to swap?

Yes so instead of doing things twice its easier and smarter to go odb1 right now. Jumper harness ecu and dizzy. You will need dizzy harness plug and injectors with clips(plugs). Good luck ive done it a few times. Theres a few places that sell plug n play harness ive never used it but wish i did.

So obd1 is 100% necessary to covert to mpfi?
And I'd like a little more info about this plug and play mpfi conversion harnesses!

No, you can stay obd0 by using all parts of a d16a6 engine. You may also use a 90-91 integra pr4 ecu if you cannot find the pm6.

+1 on engine swap. Unless you have future plans for turbo.

Header and Exhaust is pretty much the basics if you're looking for a little more power, Good luck on your EF :-)

So much misleading info in this thread.

You can't get a custom tune for a d15b2. No such thing exists for DPFI.

IHE are the basic bolt ons - intake, header, exhaust.
The D15b2 intake manifold is so corked up that IHE is hardly noticeable.
MPFI is basically a must for realizing any performance gain.

Save yourself a headache and do the MPFI without OBD1.
Most people new to Honda mods find the MPFI conversion confusing enough as it is.
OBD0 MPFI with IHE should easily get you the little bump in power you are looking for.

OBD1 is a waste of money on this setup unless you plan to get a custom tune.

Oh man, I feel bad now. I misread the original post. Get rid of the B2! I'm sorry. The D16A6 is a great motor and so is the Z6 if you want to stay D-series. If you go B-series, I'd highly suggest a B20. If you want to build the motor, I'd go with a B20-VTEC (aftermarket high comp pistons 11.5:1~) with a short geared transmission (B16 cable).

IHE is usually where people start though.

2 1/4 exhaust if your not planning to turbo would be the best for the ef imo

Just keep it simple bro:

1. MPFI swap with Z6 intake manifold instead of A6 intake manifold

2. D16Y8 Exhaust manifold for the header, better design than stock but with the heatshields it'll keep the stock look

3. 2 1/4 inch exhaust with a turbo muffler and resonator

You can get the first two at the junkyard or on craigslist for cheap.
