Default Suggestion for What Oil Weight to use

I have a B20 block with a GSR head. The Block is built. The head is stock. I have a T3/T4 turbo and it was recently tuned on hondata on 11psi making 301HP and 245 Tq. I am due for an oil change and I would like to know what suggestions should I use. Obviously synthetic. I live in FL so I was thinking 10w40 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter. This will be my first oil change on this set up. thanks

Who built the motor? They should've provided bearing clearence and recomendations on what weight oil you should be running.

I don't like to run anything less than valvoline VR1 racing oil but that was years ago. I personally run Joe Gibbs XP6 oil in my car. But it's not a street car

The previous owner had the block built so I am not sure about bearing clearance. The previous owner told me he ran 10w30 or 10w40 but if he ran it hard, he would use 20w50. All of these were synthetic. This is not my daily driver and I need to do an oil change and Not sure what I should use. The motor was built a little over a year ago. thanks

What kind of oil pressure are you seeing with 10w30?

Rotella T6 is always a good choice. It only comes in 5w40, but that should be fine for you. It also has plenty of good additives that your turbo and engine will love lol

Until you get an oil pressure gauge you will really never know.

I think VW did a goob job figuring out what oil to run so it lasts.

5w40 synthetic. All day, err day.

With that being said, I run Rotella 15w40 in summer and dont drive it in the winter. But if I did have to drive in winter, 5w40 so it gets up and around the engine quicker when cool VS a 15 weight.

+1 for the Rotella. Been using the 15w40 conventional since I built my motor a couple thousand miles ago, also previously used it on a stock block setup. Planning on switching to the T6 next oil change. My dad also swears by the stuff and uses the 10w30 Synthetic blend in almost every piece of farm equipment and all the vehicles he has. I noticed this stuff is very resistant to thermal breakdown and excessive high temperatures as compared to some other conventional oils I tried like Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc.

Rotella T6 seems to be a reliable go-to for what I've run.
