Default h22 in a 94 civic with s300. speedo and vtec issue

I have a 94 cx hatch with a h22a1 swap tuned on s300. My speedometer and obo isnt working. CEL is on. Turn the car off and on it goes away but comes back. No vtec engagement 90% of the time. full limp mode 90% of the time. car ran fine before. pulled the motor few weeks back and worked at first then no more. I swapped the vss and no difference. Ive traced all wiring and everything looks good. pulled the cluster and everything looked fine. Checked all fuses and such and everything was good. Im at a loss what to do next. any help would be awesome.

Ensure your alternator fuse isn't blown also double check your speed sensor wires aren't crossed/cracked and touching each other. Another issue could be a vacuum leak.

What's the CEL for?

Your absolutely positive the wiring for the vss isn't freyed or broken and that the sensor was a working sensor?

Connect a laptop to the car and monitor your data stream for vehicle speed while driving at low speeds in a low traffic area. If there is ZERO mph shown while the car is moving... you either have a VSS or wiring problem. If it worked before (since you said it was tuned, I am assuming here), that is all the more reason that it is a problem listed above... unless you changed something prior to the failure.

Remember that the ECU doesn't pay attention to the possible failure of the VSS until the vehicle has reached an approximate speed of 45mph. Once above this target speed, the vehicle will not code 17 until you slow back down BELOW 45mph. After the CEL is lit and a code 17 is present, limp or safe mode is activated and VTEC no longer functions.

i appreciate all the help from everyone. i was gona plug into the ecu and see what was happening but hondata and mac dont mix lol. last night i went threw everything. every wire, connection, fuse, even pulled the engine harness out and apart tracing wires. i also got a new vss unit. put everything back in today and took the car for a drive and speedo now works. drove around awhile city and highway and no issues or cels. i did run the new vss its own independent ground wire. not sure what the issue was but its is fixed. thanks again everyone.

Good to hear it worked out! My H22 gave me the same problems and it ended up being a blown fuse and cracked wires.

As for the Mac to S300 issue, I advise that you install Windows via BootCamp (free and already installed on all Mac OSX software) and run your S300 through that. It's how I'm running my S300 on my Macbook Pro.
