Icon2 00 Civic si - car wont start as fast when low on fuel

I have a few questions. I have 2000 civic si, 143 miles, very well taken care of and almost all stock

When I am running low on fuel, starting at half full, my car wont start as fast. The less gas it has, the longer it takes. When I have about a gallon left, it can take around 5 seconds. Is this the fuel pump? I also have been getting around 30 mpgs since this started happening, but it could also be that its not winter anymore, not sure if they are related.

A swishing/brushing sound has gotten louder the last month or so that makes noise as fast as the tire is revolving. Am I right to assume that its the brake pad wear sensors? or could it even be something like the backing plate against the rotor? how can I tell the difference?

Last thing is every time I push the clutch in, a squeaking sound is made. not that important, just curious. thanks for any help

Normal.

As far as the sounds. Where are they coming from exactly?

Have you tried allowing your car to prime the injectors before you attempt to start it? Allowing your car to do this--especially while low on fuel, will help speed up the start process.

In regards to the clutch making noise.... Mine did the exact same thing. Try to determine if the noise is coming from in the cabin, or under the hood. It could be a pedal that needs lubing, or it could even be your slave cylinder.

Check out this link:

My slave cylinder squeaked anytime I moved the pedal. After this write up, it was completely gone. Note, it would also be a good idea to check your fluid levels, and also make sure your slave cylinder isn't leaking.

Do you move the key into the on position, then wait a few seconds, then start?

or do you immediately put the key in and start it?

if you wait like 10 seconds and it still takes a while to start, that may be a problem. If you dont give the fuel pump a few seconds to build pressure for the injectors (by leaving the ignition ON before starting), then it usually takes longer to start

My car has been doing this for years. So does the hatchback. It's normal. There's no issue.

Agreed, though if the OP wants to be our guinea pig, he could try replacing the fuel pump and possibly the FPR to see whether it solves the problem.

I waited for it to start and it does the same thing. I guess I should check and see if the sock ripped. I can gwt through to the fuel pump by taking out the backseat right?
