Default IMW-Tuned: 745whp / 490wtq, Stock sleeve K20, 6265, E85

Hello!

I just wanted to share some results from a local car I had the chance to tune this past week. The gentleman whom owns it had me tune the stock block to 720whp last fall, but ended up killing fourth gear in his transmission rather quickly. During the downtime of the transmission, he decided to throw his rod/piston engine in.

Stock-sleeve K20
86.5mm Arias 9:1 pistons
Eagle H-Beam rods
OEM head gasket
ARP head studs
Prayoonto Stage 2 cams
SueprTech springs/retainers
Ferrea flat face valves
Xcessive center-feed manifold
JDL Auto Design turbo manifold
Precision 6265, v-band, .82AR
TiAL 60mm wastegate
IMW-Spec charge piping
IMW-Spec intercooler
3" downpipe/exhaust
FID 2,200cc injectors
Walbro 416lph fuel pump (E85 version)
8AN feed, 6AN return

745whp / 490wtq @ 28psi, pump E85

The car did real well, but his current wastegate spring combo held it back from making more, as I could only squeeze 28psi from it with the boost solenoid.

Some photos / video for everyone's viewing pleasure:

The car runs REALLY well, too, for the tire combo on it. He doesn't drag race, but he does participate in "other" activities, and has been cleaning house all weekend with her. I'll try to get a good 60-160mph video from him.

As always, feel free to comment/question!

Thanks everyone!

- Derek

Wow, great numbers! Has to be a beast.

What base spring was in it?

Impressive numbers, you can't really argue with the strength of an OEM k series block, even if you aren't fond of the motor.

also fairly strong numbers for such a large turbo on low compression, 275/275ish at 5250 for such a large turbo isn't shabby.

as far as the wastegate was the spring combo not allowing you to get the gate to stay closed enough to raise pressure? I would imagine with a 60mm gate and such a large turbo and high pressure level on a 2 liter motor that you wouldn't have to bypass a lot of exhaust around the turbine wheel.

I could see you not being able to get the gate to close enough to raise pressure since such little valve travel on the 60mm to control pressure levels. I wonder if a smaller 44mm gate would give you better control, since the valve would be open much further for a given spring combo/pressure level vs the 60mm gate.

Nice work!

Few questions about the fuel setup... What was duty cycle like? Did you use a -8 feed and the factory feed for return or -6 line as well. Thanks!

No fuel issues with the one pump?

The 60mm gate was used when the engine was stock, and on gasoline. These engines, when combined with a large turbo and good manifold, like to creep pretty badly with a single 44mm at low pressures.

He honestly could just swap out the spring for a larger one, and get more boost out of it.

90% injector duty, 45psi base fuel pressure. 6AN line for return.

Nope, these pumps are pretty crazy. Just make sure you give them the current they thrive on, with a large relay and large wiring.

Nice setup. 62xx are good matches for drag / street applications on these motors.

I've got the same pump and it impressed me when It made 570whp on PTE 1000's and E85

How big of relay did you use and what wire size?

Awesome thanks for the info… How are you guys modding the stock fuel hat for the -8an? welding a new bung on the top?

Yes, it was, when it was just a pump gas car with the stock engine, making 550whp.

Yep, welding an 8AN to the stock hanger.
