y7 tranny leaking mtf. possible locations??
Just a couple days ago I noticed that my 2nd gear has been whining. And getting louder every day. And it's only 2nd gear. Seen that it was slowly leaking. So bought pennzoil syncromesh and when I drained the tranny, barley any fluid came out so of course it was low. Put 2 bottles 96 syncromesh in it. It's been fine but it's still leaking. Now the questions are.. is it safe to put the lucas transmission "stop leak" stuff in it? And 2.. where are the possibilities of a tranny leak to come from??
main cause of leaks, are the 2 axles seals. under $10 each and aren't hard to replace.
Your going to have to go under the car and see if you can see where it's coming from. You may have to clean everything off, drive it for a day and go back under and pin-point it.

The other spot is the input shaft bearing seal, this one though leaks into the bell housing and is not as easy to notice nor is it as easy to replace, you have to drop the transmission and crank open the tranny case to remove and install a new seal if it is anything like the 92-95 D series manual trannies.
Typically it's one of those three seals that gives up the ghost (isb or either of the axle seals).
