Default 1999 Civic SiR E-Brake Light

I've tried searching and haven't found an adequate answer. My ebrake light comes on at random when driving, more often when it is cold outside. Turns off when coming to a complete stop- sometimes, or, like i said earlier, just at random.

The thing is, my brake fluid level is topped up, so I can rule that out.

My brakes have about 50% meat left on them (still lots to go until reaching the screamer plate), so I don't think that is it either.

What else could it be? Where is the ebrake sensor/engagement switch located? How do I check it?

I should also add that everything else on the car works as it should. No issues with lights, defroster, wiper motor, etc, etc.

I'm requiring my entire dash harness and what I've seen the only wire going to that particular light is the e brake wire itself. This is on dx and lx models. So I would think it applies to you as we'll. my best guess is that you have a bad ground or short to ground. When you pull the brake up you complete the circuit to ground allowing the light to come on. It is a red wire from the e brake that runs under to forward part of the driver seat under the carpet to a connector assembly on top of the under dash fuse box which then goes to your cluster. I'll try to upload the wiring diagram. It's on hondahookup.com and its under the system warning diagrams.

if you already checked the fluid id next go with wiring. first the 2 wires that go to the reservoir and then the ground wire at the e brake handle itself

Can the ebrake wire be reached from inside? Do I simply pull off the center console trim surrounding the ebrake handle, or is this something that needs to be done from the underside?

The wire where it is connected to the e brake can be reached by pulling off the center armrest. There should be four screws. Two on each side. Then pull the armed e up from the back and forward to maneuver the trim around the handle. There should be one wire going to the e brake. Red and green.
