You may have a short/cut in the wire for the switch.

The wire is a negative input so it will stay ON if you don't connect it to the ebrake switch. Check your brake light bulbs.

Run the length of the wire with your fingers. Inspect it for any damage. A short in the wire can cause what you're describing.

A dim red "brake" light (dim considering it gets brighter with the ebrake) sounds like a bad fluid level switch if your brake fluid is full like you said

Why do people always want to ask questions, then question the answers?

If the wire is stripped and shorting, it might be moving around, making contact, then losing contact with whatever it's shorting on. Wires move. It happens. That's one of the main reasons electrical problems are so hard to diagnose.

^ This man speaks the truth. The symptoms you are seeing are like textbook wiring short. A "short" doesn't mean "split wire" necessarily ... sometimes it's just a "bad connection". When a connection is bad .. sometimes it's good, sometimes not... very unpredictable.
