I bought new struts for my coupe. I went to install the factory springs. It is sitting way to low and need it for daily duties. Is there different lengths of the strut shafts? Or do you have to compress the factory springs really far down?

 

Yes, the springs will need to be compressed so that the top part sits lower than the top of the strut's threaded portion on top of the shaft while the spring's bottom half is resting on the perch of the strut.

This allows you to put the strut mount, bushings and hardware on. If you don't have a spring compressor, you can borrow one from autozone.

 

So you already installed them to the car and it is sitting too low? How low? And did you somehow put the rear springs up front?

 

I have the blackswork racing springs on there now. I want to put factory springs back on there. I was trying to compress the stock ones. I compressed them close to 3-4 inches and still was not low enough to put the top hat back on.

Thats why i was wondering if the struts I have are to short. Is there different lengths?

From what I've observed, the factory springs need quite a lot of compression to fit onto stock dampers/struts.

I believe this is why the old hook and chain method of holding springs is nicknamed the "Widow maker". Race springs don't typically need the same degree of compression to put onto the struts.

 

I have a floor mounted hydraulic compressor. **** still sucks. You really shouldn't do this with rented "hook" type compressors. It's dangerous.

Go to a shop. Have them put the springs on the shocks.
