Default progressive springs??

Okay... lemme get a straight answer for this one first. Are you supposed to install progressive springs with the tighter coils towards the top, or the spaced out coils towards the top?

I've been told the tighter coils towards the top, but the coils are banging against each other on my passenger side over small bumps and cracks for some reason. Its only really noticeable on the passenger side (really loud). Any ideas on this?

What would happen if I mount the springs upside down, the spaced out coils towards the top and the tighter wound coils towards the bottom? How would ride quality and handling change? Any safety concerns to keep in mind?

Your springs can only go on ONE way. Some brands manufacture with the tighter coils on top, and vice versa. If you have installed them upside down, then t will be extremely obvious that the spring is not seated properly on the strut or strut tower mount, or both.

what if the springs are able to be seated either way? That seems to be the case for my accord w/ prokits on bilsteins. Eibach recommends installing w/ the "eibach" writing right-side up, but the spring seats better on the bilstein perch w/ the eibach upside down. And having them correctly installs causes the closely wound coils to bang on each other over lil bumps/cracks.

Theoretically, how would the ride quality and handling characteristics change if I do install them upside down? Any safety concerns?
