Default 32 Passes

So, I have made 32 passes on my current set-up (550hp). Thinking of a refresh... Rings, Oil Pump, and bearings.

Is this too soon, has anyone (if you keep count) has had a longer life? I know that every motor is different - Just hoping to get people's experiences, etc.

My setup is 715whp I have made about 30 passes, drove the car a couple thousand miles, made probabaly 30 dyno pulls.

So depending on your parts, how well it was built, I would guess other factors it should be good.

Just do a leak down and compression test and if you have good oil pressure and the motor seems to be running just fine I would leave it alone.

if compression & leakdown come back with decent results, its not burning a quart every 500 miles or more, id let it ride.

if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I just saw where one of the faster SFWD cars had an engine refresh. But, before he refreshed the engine it had tons of passes many of which were 8 sec passes and had been in a car that hit the wall. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

I would say run it till it breaks or really needs the refresh. Get your monies worth out of it.

After every time you take the car out and race you should check the compression and do a leakdown test. Track the engines performance as far as when your leakdown starts to get bad so you can expect when it'll need rings. It's better to change the rings and do an inspection than to lose a motor or potentially do damage.

From my experience youll see exhaust valve leak before bad ring leak. Compression and leakdown is a good start and checking the bearings doesnt hurt.

Agreed. I don't think there is a number of passes limit as to when you freshen up the motor. Leak downs compression test are important.

I heard about changing rod bearing each season ? Or around 4-5 races.

i change bearings every season and check everything but i don't just go changing stuff for the hell of it. Ill reuse rings if they are still performing properly. I don't follow the non sense of "while you are in there". These cars are like legos now.
