Default compression test results

did a compression test and these are my numbers from 1-4/driver side to passenger!!
1)240
2)240
3)140
4)240

now im pretty sure that 100% drop aint good
now a few facts about the motor
its stock, 2001 gsr
about 80,000-85,000 on it.
motor does not smoke not even on the first start of the dAY!
but does go down in oil not to sure how much i just did a oil change ill check it sat!!
im using royal purple oil.
i dont think it could be vavle seals because over nite oil would leak and i would get some smoke apon start!!

idk could it be my piston rings in #3?

im going to do a valve adjustment across the board to see what happens!!

what do you guys think is going on???

the motor pulls nice and hard still!!
but has a suburu sound kind of lol!!
its not that bad as it sounds but im guessing from have lower compression in 3 its making it sound like that
i read that 28-30% is the most a cylinder should be down so at if im doing 240 i should at max be 168-170 huh?
i also wanna rule out head gasket because it would read low compression on 2 cylinders next to eachother right??

Leak down test will provide additional answers...

Put a small amount of oil in the cylinder and do it again. If it jumps up its the rings. If not much change it could be a valve. Try adjustment too

240 is high. 180 should be about normal. regardless of gsr or ls motor. Check for cam timing first because it seems like an advace issue. Check also for a bent rod on number 3 because if its truly 100 down. That subaru noise might be the rod slapping against the cylinder walls.
Valve adjustment anit going to do ****.

GSR is a high compression motor, normal cylinder pressure is between 220 and 240 for a GSR, 170-190 for a LS

was your car smoking? and i could see why it would be the gasket you had 2 next to eachother with the drop, but the neighboring cylinders are normal hmm

its not that bad i spun a bearing in my d16z6 and that was loud this sound is like at idle its not smooth you know if you have straight compression across the board you will have a smooth *** idle right!!

just for the record before i did the compression test i did the timing and its deff on point!!! so i guess my only options are leak down test, but before that ill try to adjust my valves

Any oil in coolant or vice versa? HG can blow between cylinder walls and water/oil passages or the edge of the block. It's not always between 2 cylinders.

nope i did a oil change and the oil was normal.. coolant isnt tainted,
i just hope its a valve adjustment issues and not rings or what ever anyone else have an opinion?????

I really don't see how a valve adjustment would fix low compression in a cylinder, unless the valves lash on #3 is adjusted so tight it's keeping the valve(s) from seating completely. If that's the case I would bet you have 1 or more burned valves.

I say a burt valve. If it was your rings, it would smoke. Milky color in your oil will be headgasket.(antifreeze/coolant in your oil).

my guess?

the motor has far more than 80k miles and or was ran low on oil for awhile frying the rings leading to an oil burning condition that soot covered the exhaust valves until one of them finally fractured and or is so covered with soot it won't seal correctly

IMO, if it isn't rings (which you can check with a teaspoon of oil), the head is going to need to come off anyways. if not the rings, i'd just pull the head and swing it by the machine shop to be pressure tested and re-surfaced. that is, unless it's a bent rod
