easiest way to straighten out steering wheel?
Then under the dash once the wheels are straight you can unbolt the knuckle on the steering shaft and recenter the steering wheel and bolt it back together. Or are you saying there's play in the wheel?
Naw its tight but when I put the rack back in I thought I had it aligned with the steering wheel but its off by a few inches.. It was hard telling if its straight just by looking at the rack.
Gotcha. I'd get it as close as possible using the steering shaft by the firewall, then get it aligned to fine tune it. Since you did a rack though make sure it's the same number of turns from straight to the left stop and straight to right stop with the steering wheel, I've seen them end up way too far to one side and then it has to be eyeballed before the alignment computer can even do anything.
True. I didnt have the knuckles on when I did it so it was pretty tough.
so I just loosen the lil linkage thingy and set the steering wheel straight while the wheels are straight? I was thinking I'd have to lower the subframe back down and slide it out again

Take the 2 T30 torx bolts out of each side, slide the airbag out. Then loosen the 19mm nut off the main shaft and pull the steering wheel straight off. Rotate it to suit your needs and then reinstall. I have done this a few times it is quite simple and doesn't take too long. To get the wheel loose from the splines I bang on the wheel from the front towards myself while I'm sitting in the seat, the vibration will pop it loose and it will slide off the splines on the main shaft.
Iv got another problem that came up since i fucked with the car, that i was trying to ignore but I have to acknowledge now.
the steering wheel controls dont work and the srs light is on. Before it was turning off once in a while but now its constantly on. No cruise control nor horn.

I gave up with mine by putting the aftermarket wheel in...ended up with the horn mounted elsewhere and no cc, oddly I never used it anyway but now that I don't have it I kinda want it back lol. I'll probably hook it back up and put buttons somewhere on the dash eventually
Cruise control is what is making me want to fix it. A horn, air bags, I can live without. But if I dont have my cruise control I'm gonna be doing 65 in 40mph zones without thinking about it and its gonna be a bad time.
Went to merge the threads and instead merged the posts in the other thread. I have it closed while I have an inquiry in to see if my blunder is "undoable". Hopefully the merge can be undone and then I or another mod can merge that thread with this one.
Okay it seems my bungle can't be undone so I recall what post was what but I don't remember exactly who's is who's. I recall grumblemarc, prettymuchboned and 78F350 being in the thread. If I put the wrong name to the wrong quote please let me know. This is about the closest I can do in undoing my post merge fiasco.

Your steering wheel probably turned a little too far when you has the rack out and broke the connection.
