Default Exhaust gap?

I bought a new exhaust system for my 96 civic. It is a catback exhaust. Little did I know, my car doesn't have a cat. So when me and my friend installed my exhaust, there was about a footlong gap between the pipes. Is there something I can buy that will connect with the screws and everything to fill this space or do I have to buy a cat? I don't think I really need one. At of now, we just got a piece of pipe from oreilly's and put it in the pipes. It kind of stays, but it rattles below 600 rpms and from 2-3.

Test pipe from ebay. You need a cat legally though bub.

I just found a test pipe with a cat on ebay. Would that suffice?

No. There isn't actually a cat in there - it's just a test pipe.

Get a direct-fit cat from Magnaflow, bolt it in, and you're done.

Judging from the OP's location he doesn't need a cat for inspection.
