Hello. This is a 93 civic lx. I have been noticing a raw gas smell only sometimes when driving. It is completely random, can bee at 60mph or at 30mph, no difference. No hard acceleration. The car does not smell in the morning which should suggest that it is not coming from inside the car (gas tank). And since it randomly appears when driving fast, it should not be the tank filler cap either.

The smell comes and goes randomly. Usually when driving it will go away after a minute or so. It can be right after turning on, or after an hour of driving. Completely random.

I can not see any leak when running. No gas residue on intake or around gas lines. I have seen leaks on this car before and it leaves a red stain on the metal around the leak. I have not found any red stains.

Any ideas of how to pin point the location of the smell?

 

is your gas cap on tight?

take rear seat out, take off fuel pump cover and check those connections.

 

Check the canister hose and vent valve.
