Default 97 Civic LX auto won't engage in gear(D) in the morning

Hello!

My 1997 Civic LX Auto in the mornings sometimes does not engage into the D gear after I shift into it. It sits there and when I press on the gas, it is as if it is in neutral, and then after around 30 seconds, it slowly gets into gear. This only happens in the mornings and after that throughout the day it is never a problem. Also seem to happen more when the car sits for a longer period overnight or when it is cold. My transmission fluid have been flushed last year and I kept an eye on it ever since. It seems like the fluid is very slowly leaking or being used up(?), went to barely below the min amount since the flush around a month ago.

Any idea of whats happening? I read on the forums that intermittent issues are typically electronic, but this seems to be happening more and more frequently. Thank you for all of your insight

warm it up and check the trans fluid make sure its full. if not, fill it up! if it is, may want to look into getting a trans filter and new fluid that might help

At that point you might as well replace the trans. Honda auto's have the filter inside the transmission, requiring disassembly to get to it.

How many miles are on it? These things get grumpy. Any prior issues?

You have a cel light on or anything? Could be the linear solenoid.

Can you locate the leak? When it was flushed did the use proper fluid or just any off the shelf brand?
