97 civic m/t (no sensor on key)

went to honda bought a new key and the guy said that the door and trunk will be the same but the ignition will be hard ....

go home gonna test the key out(havent drove the car in a month or so )
slips right into the ignition and goes the 3rd stage smoothly but wont start cause battery is dead

i can move my key easily through 1-2-3 and can push it in on the 1st position but i cant twist it all the back to release the key any suggestions or comments????

could it be a issue with a dead battery ? should i go mid evil on it with some pliers ?

 

try jiggling the **** out of the key as u turn it happens to my 99 civic once in a while and can usually get it out that way. believe its a problem with the ignitions

 

fix the battery issue first.
isnt there a key release button on the column? coulda sworn all manual trans cars had key release lock button..

 

96-98 Civics definitely don't have a key release button. I don't believe 99-00 do, either.

OP, try pushing the key in while rotating it backwards towards OFF.
