98 lx no spark
hello there, i have a 1998 civic lx with vin "j". i have no spark. and my code reader says error code when i try to scan the obd2 connector. have done some testing that i will list. 1. no spark at any ignition wires. 2. no spark from coil tower. 3. i have battery voltage at the positive side of the coil while cranking and not cranking, which tells me that the coil and ICM are receiving battery voltage. 4. then i checked for the coils switching signal, put test light on positive of battery and probe end on negative side of coil, test light lights up until you crank it then goes out, it should flash but doesn't. 5. with the distributor connector connected i used a led light and hooked positive side to battery and negative side to probed yellow/green wire, led lights up but when cranked it goes out, should flash while cranking. 6. checked ohms of cyp sensor in distributor and got 316 ohms, i think the spec is 300 to 700 ohms. 7. disconnected crank position sensor at connector and tested for ac voltage it is .989v ac, i believe the spec is .2 to 2.0v ac. then checked ohms of sensor, ohm reading is 1868, which i believe is OUT of spec, i think it should be 400 to 900 ohms, im not sure if the cold weather is making my ohm readings what they are but, i do not want throw parts at it. i like to know why there is no spark and troubleshoot problem. i sure hope there is help out there for me. i would love to have some opinons and other testing methods that i may have missed all the help the better. thanx
Have you checked the timing belt? With the hood 15A ECU fuse (#44) removed, does the rotor spin when you crank the engine?
Describe exactly how you are Ohm testing the CYP sensor in step 7. After cranking the engine for 30 seconds, are any CEL codes set?
How did this problem come about?

i have not physically checked the timing belt but i assume the belt is fine cause the rockers are moving up and down and the rotor spins. i removed the fuse and yes the rotor spins. in step 7 it was the crank position sensor i tested, the one down by the crank, i put the meter on ohms and connect meter to blue wire and white wire and checked for resistance not cranking, then the same and cranked for voltage. step 6. is where i tested the cyp i disconnected the distributor connector and hooked meter to the cyp wires. i woke the other morning and would not start. i can not see if there is any codes due to the scanner says "error code"
the only 15amp fuse under the hood other than the STOP/HORN is marked on the top of the cover as "FI E/M. and it does turn with fuse removed. im not sure the ECM is located but i probably need to get to it
