Default H22a4 compression

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has done a compression test on a motor not in the vehical. I got a killer deal on the motor cause its an SH motor but included a h22a1 trans. I paid like 300 for the motor and 200 for the trans, it was a deal I couldnt pass up.

So for compression test,
1st round... 25-50psi across the board
Valve adjustment.. All were out of spec
2nd round ... 92-95psi through out.

Next is a leak down test when the tester arrives this week and to replace valve seals.

So my question is this has anyone ever done this, this way? Are the lower numbers normal on a engine stand VS in the car. I know trying to get the compression to not bleed off is a pain and trying to get 6 revolutions sucks.

You just hook up the starter and apply battery voltage to the solenoid.

Not sure what car you're going to put it in but the SH block will need something fabricated to work in anything but an SH chassis.

Those compression numbers are way too low.

Well the block was cold and I couldnt hold open the throttle body so there is some of the low numbers. The engine is on a engine stand so trans and starter are off, I am going to do a leak down test next. If I have to I have a sleeved H22 and a full gasket kit from honda if goes that way.

THere isnt a whole lot of fabrication to put an SH H22 into an accord you just have to make an adaptor for the 1/2 shaft so it can mount to the block. Its basicly the same motor.

Lol, funny that I stumbled across this thread. I have an already-modified halfshaft OP if you would like it. It was previously from my prelude days when I found an AEBS H22A4(SH) block that I never got around to using. I'll sell it to you for cheap if you want it.

might be, pm me with a price.

Well onto the tragic report... I did the leak down today, no compression on cylinder 3 leaking through the intake and exhaust and leaking on 1 through the exhaust. its weird tho I have even compression a cross all 4 with the compression tester???

No big deal tho, I have all the gaskets and my buddy owns a machine shop. Just debating now on to do Mahle gold pistons or just new piston rings (I have eagles already).

Pulled the head... Cylinder 1 and 3 were the leaking ones, 1 was exhaust leak and 3 intake. Thought it was a timing belt broke issue. Got everything apart (even checked bearings and no issues(almost look new). Start playing with the head alittle, and noticed a **** load of carbon built up on the exhaust valves so this is where my question comes from. Also the valves do not apear to be bent or damaged in any way just not sealing correcly.

Anyone seen alot of carbon build up on valves that it wont allow the valves to seat right? This motor was runing very very rich and never got hot enuff to burn/clean up any surfaces. So I think I am going to rebuild the head with Ferra 5000 flat face valves, and new valve seals and maybe supertech valve springs with stock retainers and locks.

questions...
Carbon not allow valves to seal?
Anyone use Viton Supertech valve seals?
