Default compression test question

is there a way to test compression in a cylinder with the engine out of the car? i have a compression tester, will i get an accurate reading by cranking the engine over by hand a few times or will i lose pressure to fast?

Try it, turn the crank over with an impact gun to build pressure.

You wil not be able to do the compression check however you could do a leak down test. Which in all reality would accomplish the same thing. Kind of a static compression test.....

It would give somewhat of an idea. burnt valves, cracked ring lands, its better than doing nothing. Although at operating temp. would be ideal, it would still work OK..

Technically yes, but you can still observe cylinder variability when it is cold. OP, have you considered connecting the starter and "jumping" it?
