Default ISSUES! mechanic installed si trans in my wagon

i have a 91 civic wagon. as stock as possible.

i recently had my mechanic install an si trans i had found and also a new clutch.
this is the short list of all the things he put in due to the fact i dont have a garage and its winter.

after putting the si trans in and moving it arond his yard i immediately noticed the shifter sits real close to the dash/radio. actually so close that my hand hits the radio shifting into 1,3,5.

they had told me they used one shift linkage from my car and the other shift linkage from the parts i brought there which were out of a hatch.

so i pointed out this new shifter position and he said "that trans isnt made for this car thats just how it is" which i'm am beyond pissed off hearing after giving him a ton of cash.

can anyone help with this? is it due to having mix/matched linkage, can the linkage be adjusted or is that really how its going to be..(which i find real hard to believe..)

I'm trying to remember, but i think somebody had some similar issues on here one time and they had put the shifter in incorrectly.

The shifter may be installed backwards which would angle it away from you causing you to hit the radio. As long as the linkage was from. A manual 88/91 civic or crx there shouldn't be any problem. You can mix and match those.
