Looking to turbo my CRV with GSR swap and tune with NepTune.
My question is which ECU would I use to chip with. Can I use the P28 or P72 or do I have to stick the the stock ECU of the CRV because of the awd trans?
It is a 99 CRV 5spd awd all stock now but I have a 96 GSR b18c1 I'm looking to swap in there. The motor is in my eg hatch now running on hondata s300 but I bought the car like that and I don't know which ecu it is chipped with.
I would like to use NepTune because of the price difference and so that I can tune it with my Mac.
What I want to do is swap the b20 into the hatch and keep hondata on that car and run NepTune on the gsr in the CRV.
So in summation, which ECU would I use to chip NepTune in for the CRV?
Thanks

Any OBD-1 ECU that can be chipped will work. I am not sure what gives you the idea that the RT4WD has a computer controlling it. I highly suggest you see a "professional" to help you.
If you are dead set on going in over your head then I suggest you go to the Forced Induction and Engine Management forums and read the FAQs. These questions have been asked thousands of times.

any chipped obd1 ecu is fine.. all it matters is the mapping of your set up... i mean the specs
when you have it dyno tuned!! <-- its a MUST, dont rely on pre programmed basemaps, it might
make your V moving but you wont get the potential of your set up, also it may or may not be safe!
as far as engine management.. if you have background into tuning use whatever program you are
accustomed or familiar with, if you are not... then let a "professional" do the job, a good tuner will
tell you the same... he will use what ever program he is familiar with, although a good engine
management program --> hondata, aem, etc will have more tuning options but the basic ones
will do just fine!
for the rt4wd.. the ecu wouldnt affect the dual pump system, its mechanical and only engages
when our front front tires slips, i even dynoed my car 2wd! i unhooked the propeller shaft and bolted
it on after the dyno sessions... as per practice of my tuner, he also adjust or tweak somethings
on road settings or actual driving settings... coz what ever figures you get on the dyno machine
will definitely be a different "feel" when you are actuyally driving the car...
good luck!

A p28 or p72 would be slightly easier to use on a Gsr, but any will do. Non vtec ecus can be converted to vtec and iab conversions can also be done on any obd1 ecu.
Don't be scared by automatic ecus either, they can also be converted to manual.

You already have hondata, why are you switching to neptune? just keep using it. its obviouslly already tuned for that engine.
for the car, use just a plain chipped ecu with crome and a b20 basemap.
Thanks for the info guys. I am pretty mechanically inclined and have assembled turbo kits before but I've never done engine management. I guess I could keep Hondata but I know I would have to retune it anyways. The motor as it sits right now is running off skunk2 hi comp pistons and stage 2 cams so it would really be pointless boostin it now with this setup. I was going to swap out the cams for stock gsr cams and put in some wiseco 9:1 pistons I have laying around when I actually get the turbo kit.
Its good to know that I can use the ecu I have the gsr with right now though. I just thought the ecu had something to do with the awd system because I heard someone saying that about it at work or something. I guess not.
Since I want to swap out the gsr in my hatch and put in the b20, could I run neptune on the b20 ecu for the b20 in the hatch? Im asking bc I would love to run the b20 with my jdm itr trans but I do also want to build the head so I can rev a little bit higher.
Thanks again guys.

Any obd1 ecu will do what you want. Some will need vtec added and IAB control if you still have the stock intake manifold
