Low gas mileage code 8 and 9
Hey HT
I recently had some problems in my 90 civic hatch, which have been fixed but I realized I'm not getting my usual 27-32 mpg like I used to. It has a d16y7 swap in it. I have cleaned the air filter has new wires and the spark plugs are from mid-August.
I have switched from 15" wheels to 17" wheels, the only reason I got the 17's was because my dad got a good deal on them.
Would that cause a significant mileage drop.
If not then what are some things that can be cleaned or replaced to get mpg back up.
Also I'm getting a code 8 and 9 which is the tdc and the cyp sensors. Other than that the car runs good. Every now and then it does bog though.
TIA for help

Has engine fault code and asking if wheel size is the problem for poor gas mileage.

Fix your distributor or it's wiring - it's giving you fault codes and causes poor mileage.

Take it easy. It' actually will make a difference AS WELL as the codes. I put some Mini cooper 17 s-lites with runflats on my 91 hatchie and it greatly affected my city gas mileage. They weighed twice what my stock setup did. I believe code 8 is TDC sensor. I'm not sure of the code 9
I had the codes before I got the new wheels but never noticed my gas mileage so low right now I get about 18-23 most of my driving is back roads so (stop and go) which I used to get about 27 or so since I drive the same route everyday
If wiring looks good, then make sure you have the correct distributor for your ECU (ECU and distributor have to be compatible.)
Then do the troubleshooting for the TDC and CYP sensors. They aren't replaceable by the consumer so you would have to get a new distributor.
