hey there i had the p1457 code pop up after coupl weeks after changing my header (to another stock, long story)
then the code popped up and i reset it to see if it could be the gas cap.
Few weeks later and to present day the code pops up again what do i do, what can it be?
Also i have been smelling a gas/oil like substance in my car (im sure its related)

Any help i sappreciated.

 

this is normally a leak in the evap system...if you're smelling gas you might be lucky in being able to find the leak somewhere in the engine bay..if not this is really a professional job to find and fix it.

Yes, and I'm guessing you saw where it was located. It's not an easy job, but doable if you wanted to. I have pretty much taken on any engine or exterior job thus far...one thing I probably wouldn't bother with, is something fuel related. But it's just me.

 

Im a newbie not even thinking of doing it myself, unfortunetly im no where near being a mechanic. i just did a lot of research and apparently for this code the first issue is the canister vent shut valve that needs to be replaced, folllowe by the two way by-pass valve?
im hoping to get it checkd out today

 

And being in Canada, I'll guess the screws that hold it are about as rusted as can be. They will be fun to remove

 

ya i gav eit to the mechanic i let him know possible canister vent open valve he said he'l check it out so we'l see. Hope its a cheap and quick fix

 

I have the 2002 SE accord mechanic says just keep driving no need to fix anything :S

After reading the TSB and many people's comments should i go fix the canister vent shut valve first and then if the light stays go to change the 2 way bypass valve afterwards?

According to the TSB 003001 it says the 2way bypass as the fix but many say canister vent shut valve.

Which route should i go towards, opinions are greatly appreciated.

 

But I thought the laws just changed in TOR? Meaning you will fail inspection if the light is on, I think/thought this changed Jan 1 of this year.

Names for these get confusing. If you are not going to test them, I'd start with the purge valve - Dorman part 911-754. You can get the part from many places (OE or other), I'm just giving the Dorman number as a reference

 

Ya you do fail but when E test is valid for 2 years and i just got mine in January i believe. I've been hearing so many mixed stories. Ive researched and it says for the 2002 model you gotta change the Bypass Solenoid or the 2 way by pass valve while the 98 99 models need the canister vent shut valve.

This is the second time my 1457 light came on in about a 1.5 months of driving.
