new oil pan gasket- major leak!

so i did everything by the book, torqued everything in spiral order,
only 4 dabs of rtv at the block seams. let it cure 24 hours. now oil is dripping out rapidly near crank and especially at the back drivers corner. should never have touched anything i guess.8(
any ideas? guess i'll order the hondahabit kit to change it to all studs.

you forgot to mention to be careful not to leave behind the old little stud washer things that are built into the old gasket. i removed my old gasket and the old washers stayed behind. when i reinstalled my gasket it leaked. im talking about the studs on the oil pump. also you forgot to mention not to put RTV over the entire mating surface. under crankshaft pressure it will blow out. RTV should only be used where the oil pump meets the block. just two small dabs at the seams and the same for the tranny crank seal cap. (dont know the proper name for what im refering to) ill try to find pics of both the old washers and where to put rtv. it would help make your thread more complete. nice write up.

well just for fun i called the toll free parts line at los gatos acura
and asked about these little washer things. two long time techs were totally stumped, never heard of them. wtf?

true but my factory original had them for sure and the guy whose post i quoted obviously had them too. consensus seems to be they are not needed i guess? i cant find a gasket that has them. washers or no oem have major issues as noted here:

too bad theyre backordered. so i ordered fel-pro perma dry gasket
since it's supposedly better than oem:

outsourcing after-market parts, (which they usually refuse to do.) My
shop has used this particular gasket many times, on (new & OEM oil
pans) as a replacement, and have never had a return complaint for a
leak. In fact, I replaced the oil pan & gasket on my own '96 PAU (some
idiot bent it with a jack) last year using this same gasket, & it is
still bone dry."
so silicone or not? i'm thinking rtv on the pump and trans mating areas might still be a good idea. since rtving the hell out of everything is not a good idea how much can you get away with?
and this stud conversion kit should help line the gasket up better:

I've never had an issue with any gasket, aftermarket or oem. torque in the correct procedure and you'll be fine.
if you need a new pan, why not just get an oem or aftermarket oem one? I think I paid 60 bucks or so for mine from advance auto parts.

for some reason not seeing any cheapies like that on ebay/amazon but local parts guys says $80 so thx 4 the reminder. if all that doesnt work i may have to end it all. 8(
This is what I got from Delray acura. Its for a 1993 GSR. I couldn't post the diagram due to copyright. The diagram doesnt' appear to have washers for 1993s.

DONT put stuff like that on your gasket or to make a gasket. It will be hard to clean off when you install next time around. Follow the tight down pattern procedure. I recommend using a quarter inch rachet to tighten not a torque wrench.
Well, because they are probably aftermarket. Do you know what aftermarket means by the way?

no this was the original factory gasket.
someone said there is an aftermarket gasket with the embedded
washers but i havent found one yet. although someone
said they fit on the oil pump studs i believe the washers fit
on the middle studs alongside the transmission (and i cant just
re-use the old ones apparently).

I "torqued" all mine by the book, but with just a 3/8 ratchet, and ONLY turned them till I noticed the tiniest snug. then moved to the next, going around the pan like 5 times until they all had the slightest force

i'd love to get a myhondahabit gasket but they are backordered.
even at $80 they cant make them fast enough i guess lol so felpro is up next.
got tired of pulling all those tranny support bolts just to remove the flywheel
cover so mr. grinding wheel took things down to size.
it was a good outlet for my frustration.
now flywheel cover pops right off with just the two middle bolts like god intended. the guy who designed that may now officially bite me. 8)

I waited for the myhondahabit gasket on backorder and when it finally arrived it solved the leak problem. I had used a felpro soft blue one, but it blew out at several places around the pan. Old engine, lots of blow-by. Bought the stud kit but decided not to use it. Still leak-free, about 1000 miles later.

d'oh! not what i wanted to hear, putting in the felpro and stud kit today, fingers crossed.
it does look beefier than the honda gasket, hopefully it wont leak too much
otherwise toyota form in place gasket stuff is up next.
checking everyday to see if those hondahabit gaskets are in yet. 8(
gonna take a closer look at the pan edges this time around too...
