Default Tuning time estimate

Hi

I have an Integra Type R DC2 with modified intake, header and exhaust sytem and want to get it tuned with Hondata s300. Is anyone able to tell me (through your experience) how long a tune would take?

I have spoken to a few tuners and they cant give me a straight answer which makes it hard to budget. As you can see, the car only has a few modifications (so i wouldnt expect more than a couple of hours) with no idle issues - just running a bit rich. Would like to tune to get the most out of the mods, smooth out the VTEC 'kick', get a bit more midrange and not run as rich.

Thanks.

every car is different, even stock cars. that's why no one can give you a straight answer.
the better the basemap, the less time it'll take to tune.
the better the tuner, the less time. the more picky the tuner, the more time. the best tuners are very picky and prefer to fine-tune as best as possible. so they combine speed and many times more changes, so timeframe really is a total crapshoot.

Thanks for the replies.

Does it matter which basemap i get loaded with it to save time? Is it worth getting one for a stock ITR or get one for I/H/E. I figure it doesnt matter since the tuner will be starting from scratch?

Typically tuners use their own maps so they know parameters and conditions are setup properly. Given there is nothing wrong with the car, couple hours tops.

yup. and to add to that, you should ask your tuner to supply you with a basemap to drive the car to him.

Well honda's very rarely get tuned from where i am, so the chances of my tuner having a Honda basemap are very slim. Can i not just plug the Hondata ECU in at the dyno and select from the list of calibrations pre loaded into SManager, and from there the tuner can just edit one?

Sure. but 9/10 the basemaps suck and require a lot more tweaking when someone who tunes honda's will have something already ready that will fit your build but will need minor tweaking to get started.
