Does anyone know where the hose from the valve cover PCV outlet goes? I do not have one, and instead just run a mini filter on the valve cover. I had to replace my PCV valve today and I realized I might want to run the complete PCV system.

According to this picture,

it goes to some metal tubing that branches off 3 different ways.

Can anyone take some pictures of the actual setup so I can see where the hoses go?

I found part of it, in this random picture I found from Googling
but I can't see where the lines go.

 

The line coming off by the oil cap normally goes into the stock intake arm. The one under that is a coolant line that runs from the throttle body to one of the water necks on the head.

 

I knew that it normally goes to the stock intake arm, but why is the line metal? Also, why don't I have that coolant line that goes from the TB to the water neck?

 

Couldnt tell you why its metal honestly. And most likely the previous owner bypassed that line to the throttle body. Nothing to worry about unless you live in a place that gets below 32˚.

 

It must connect to another rubber hose before it goes to the intake arm, I assume. I have a swap from HMO and it came without that metal tubing and without the intake arm. Can you post some pictures of the intake area so I can see where exactly the lines go? There is also one line on the drivers side end of the IM that is plugged on my engine, and I am trying to figure out what it is.

 

The end of the metal pipe actually just slides into a dedicated hole on the intake arm. The only rubber piece is the one you see coming off of the valve cover on an oem setup. But you can use any rubber hose and it will work fine like in the picture.



As for the coolant line this is the best I can find of how they should look, minus the loop they did.



As for the line you dont know what it is, try to find a picture of which one your talking about. The only thing on that side of the manifold are the pcv port (big one in the front), fpr port (tiny one in the front) and the brake booster port (big one in the back)

 

Ah, okay I have all of those but the hose you drew over in yellow goes directly to the spot it is supposed to without connecting to that metal pipe, and the red hose goes to the correct port on the IM. I guess I am just missing the valve cover to air intake arm hose which is not needed as much since it is only for air/oil fumes.

Thats just an extra vacuum port. Usually its either blocked off or in another spot depending on when the manifold was made. If you look at the diagram you posted youll notice its not even on there.

 

I do notice it is not on the diagram, very strange. Where is it located on other manifolds? Also, is it usually blocked off with a spot weld or something? The way mine is blocked off looks a little ghetto.

 

The other manifolds have that port right above the IACV, and usually theres either no port at all or it just has a cap over it.

 

Oh, I see. I like the look of that cap. Looks a little cleaner than what I have going on with mine. Do you know what size that is so I can look for a cap like that white one in the above picture?

 

Should be the same size as the small one in the front for the regulator. I'd say 1/8th but I could be wrong.

 

coolant goes through the other metal tube attached. i would guess that may be part of the reason they chose to make it metal. it also allows it to easily slide into the intake arm

you can buy a pack of vacuum caps on ebay or at vatozone that should fit that nipple. i used a check of vacuum hose with a screw stuck in it for years until i found the proper cap one day

if you know any 240 guys you may see if they have any condoms, those would work too

 

True.. what do you think was used when this motor was brand new from the factory in Japan? I doubt that it used the setup I have now, although it came like this from HMO.

 

It might have been a line to the charcoal canister. But as racebum said you can get a pack of those caps at any auto store and they look similar to the one used on the manifold I posted.

 

I believe that's what that vacuum line is for, mine usually has a thin hose going to the charcoal canister, sometimes these lines get cracked easily though.

 

I'm not sure if JDM Type R's even came with a charcoal canister. Where would I find it, if I had one?

 

i can't remember what that nipple was for but, the jdm itr had a nipple on the TB that the canister ran to if i remember right. i think it was the gas tank vent, to charcoal, to TB

there was no evap solenoid on the jdm engines and i can't for the life of me remember what that thing did.

you might be able to find pics of a jdm itr engine and trace it online

 

Well from what I can tell it goes somewhere behind the motor, but after that I have no clue.



If you really, really want to find out I can ask someone overseas and find out for you.

They said its for one of the lines going to the charcoal canister. But I wouldnt even bother doing it unless you need to for emission testing.

 

Yeah, I'm not going to do it. Also, I don't even think I have a charcoal canister. It's strange that I do not even see the line in that picture, it looks like that IM had the spot weld for the vacuum hose location. I just need to get a nice plug/condom.
