cel on after 00 b16a2 swap into 98 hatch - code reader not recognized
I need help guys. I recently swapped a 2000 b16a2 into my 98 cx hatch. I used the wire harness and computer from the 00 si. I have a check engine light on and when I go to check the code with the machine the machine does not recognise my car. Now this is only my second swap, first one on a obd2 car so I'm not too familiar with obd2a and obd2a thing. My friend told me it may be bc I put and obd2a swap into an obd2b car, or vice versa and the car harness in not working with the engine harness and ecu. How do I fix this problem? Will I have to swap the entire harness and ecu or is there a simpler fix? Any input would help.
You can't use the 99-00 harness without the interior harness as well. You can use a 96-98 Ex Harness for mostly plug and play. Or use the dx harness and add the additional wiring.
It was a quick swap bc my other car got totalled to I need it done fast so no I didn't do any research. I was also busy doing an auto to manual swap while my friends, who have done way more swaps than me were doing the engine swap and failed to tell me this was gonna be a problem. I can't put it on them though it's my car so I should of done the research. So if I use the 96-98 harness will it work with the 00 si computer or will I have to run a p28. Which would be easier/cheaper, swapping out the whole harness or running a jumper harness to a p28?
I just looked up a jumper harness on rywire. Seems like spending the money on that and running it to the 00 ecu would be easier than using the 96-98 harness bc it's also an automatic harness.

Use the harness the car came with. Add the wiring for vtec, knock and IACV conversion. Extend the second 02. Then you can use an OBD2a to b ecu adapter.

So I'm gonna have to pull out the 00 harness and switch it with the 98, run all those wires then use the adapter to the 00 ecu? That's the easiest way? The adapter won't work with the 00 harness to the 00 ecu?
The link will tell you all but in a nutshell
1. Use 96-98 ex harness, wire in 2nd 02, ecu adapter
2. Use the 98 harness, do all the additions above plus the ecu adapter
3. Replace your interior harness with a 99-00 ex or Si

Why would I replace the interior harness with a 99-00 if I'm gonna put the 96-98 engine harness back in. Does anyone know if my situation would also cause my speedo and tach to not work. I'm assuming since the interior harness is still the 96-98 and the engine is a 99-00 that the speedo sensor isn't matching up. Am I right?
Yes. The green plug that connects the engine harness to the dash harness is pinned differently between the two and as Ron said OBD2 get their tach signal from the ECU rather than the distributor.
