Default What harness b16a2 swap into 1998 hb?

I need to know what engine and dash harness to use to make this swap easy.
I know you have to use the same year and make cabin harness to make it work.
The car was a mess when i bought it and they tried to do a tuck and it did not work out.

If anyone has any knowledge please let me know. I want to make this easiet as possible.

99-00 is obd2b, which is a completely different harness.

Not that I know of because you'd have to add some wiring as well.

so pretty much you have to use the same harness that came with your chassis regardless of what engine is in?

IE: No 98 EX engine harness in 99 EX?

Pretty much for 96-00 Civics. The 96-98 and 99-00 are different at the ECU plugs. I don't think much is different on the engine harness except the fact that the 99-00 moved the primary O2 to right before the cat so the connector for that location may differ in length and the distributor plugs changed.

96-98 EX

vs

99-00

What trim leverl I it? if its a dx hatchback.from what I remember dx engine harness has both o2 sensors on/near manifold.
Eiither can modify dx harness or get ex.

So when you go to switch to ex harness...ex engine harness has 1 o2 sensor plug(manifold).and ex civic bodys have 1o2 on cat..wich is under car.so the second o2 plug comes out of floorboard

So might have to wire up secondary 02 or just buy obd2a to obd1 ecu jumper and use obd1 ecu.

As said 96-98 EX harness is the best because it is already wires for Vtec an is pretty much plug and play, you will to extend a few plugs and may need to repin. ff-squad.com has all the rewiring info you may need. You can also use a Lx or Dx 96-98 harness all the same stuff needs to be done and you will need to add the 2 wires for Vtec. I have a Dx harness in my 98 Civic with Ls Vtec and I just added the Vtec wiring and did the small changes needed.

Thanks for all the info. Now i am trying to figure out which cabin harness i will have to use. I have been told that if your using a 99-00 si harness you need the 99-00 si cabin harness in order for it work properly and plug right in.

Can you not use a 96-98 cabin harness with a 99-00 si engine harness?

Seriously just find another 96-98 DX engine harness. Add the VTEC and knock wiring , convert the IACV to two wire and be done. No you can't use 99-00 engine harness with 96-98 cabin harness.

I understand why everyone says to get a 96 to 98 harness but the problem is this engine was tuned with my 1999 si harness and hondata was hook up to that stock harness so i want to use the same harness.

I thought the tune would not work properly or because the dahs harness and engine harness are different it would not hook up to my ecu right.
I am just not familar with the wiring and i want to make this simple as possible

You need to repin like 2 wires at the ECU plugs, really easy.

You dont change the dash/cabin harness only the engine harness. LOL in the early days we did not know that. I can remember pulling dash harnesses out of Del Sol Vtecs bad in the day and rewiring EGs, if only we new back then what we do now.

a tune has nothing to do with a properly working harness.
