So it started at spring nationals and made me look dumb like i cant drive stick. The trans in my turbo car(gsr with mfactory. Lsd) just wouldnt go into 3rd gear. No grinds just nothing there. It happens really only above 8000 rpm but that sucks because i shift around 9000. I checked it on the street too and same thing. It only happens going from 2 to 3rd. if i granny shift or let the rpm come down a bit it will go into gear. Whats the most probable culprit for this type of issue. Just trying to get an idea before i take the trans out and apart.

Other possibly useful info. Clutch is a comp st 5 with the upgraded pressure plate. It has round 5000 miles and a dozen or so passes at the track. The car makes rigjt about 500whp on the race gas and low 400s on pump.

 

Clutch could be slipping, or could be a problem with the 3rd sleeve assembly (hub, slider, synchro, synchro spring), 3rd gear on the mainshaft side, shift fork, or the SCHA. Pull the trans and inspect the clutch first. Check for fluid that could be coming from the mainshaft seal on the trans or main seal on the engine.

 

are all the syncro springs the same? i have a bunch of unbent ones from an ls hydro trans. ill also check the slider hub might have to smooth it out with some sandpaper. i had to do that on a trans a few years ago and it helped out.

 

LS 2/3/4 are different from BVTEC's. If the hub is scratched up it need to be replaced.
