Default D16y8 Swap Quick Questions-Noob alert

So im buying a 2000 d16y8 that came out of an automatic car and its going into my 96 manual dx hatch that used to have a y7. i want to make the swap as painless as possible and my question is can i use a 96-98 y8 engine harness -manual of course. or does it have to be a 99-00? 2nd question is since the engine was for an auto and i use a manual engine harness do i still need to do the iacv plug switcheroo?(3 wire to 2 wire)

No use the Y7 harness and add the Vtec wiring and plug in an OBD2A Ex MT ECU and you are good to go.

Yes you can use a '96 - '98 Y8 harness, or add vtec to your current harness. It doesn't matter which of the two harnesses you use, you'll need to do some wiring either way. Using the Y8 harness you'll need wire in the secondary O2 sensor, using the Y7 harness you'll need to wire in vtec and do the IACV fix. In both cases it needs to be a '96 - '98 harness.

You'll also need a manual Y8 intake manifold and throttlebody.

Nothing more to say. this guy nailed it. Extending the o2 is easier than the vtec and iacv fix though. I vote use the 96-98 Si harness if you have it. if you don't then do the iacv fix and the vtec wire in on the y7 as the Si harness could cost 50-150 bucks . . .

It must be. It's not on the engine harness. I wired mine right to the ecu. Ran 4 wires out through the firewall.

Yes there is. If you want to do a power window conversion using a '96 - '98 floor harness and engine harness makes the whole swap plug and play from an electrical perspective.

You can use the y7 cable but it'll be longer of a loop of course or go to Honda and buy a y8 throttle cable as they're not that expensive.

Not sure but if you look throughout the 96-98 years the EX, DX/LX/CX, GX and Del Sol S/Si share this distributor. Maybe revisions or slight manufacturer differences (TEC, Westec, Weastec)?

No. the dx don't have the second alternator as an option, least not the 96. but the 97ex does. but ur prolly right. they did the same thing with the spark plug wires.
