Icon2 building up a d16 block vs doing a b16 swap

So to start things my d16a6 has around 226000 miles on it and smokes under hard throttle. Because of this I've been debating a rebuild. My question is should I just do a stock rebuild to get me through until I can find a good b16 or just build up the d16? I'm looking to do around a 400whp Turbo car down the line for now I just have a te04h Turbo and Turbo edit to get my feet wet in the world of boost.
Keep in mind I'm looking to go as low budget as possible with sacrificing reliability.

Thanks,
Dillon

With a goal of 400 HP I would go B-series. You can do it with a D but you have to build the D or B to handle 400 HP "reliably" so you might as well build a B. Why B16? You are making HP per liter. The bigger the motor the easier it is to make the desired HP. B18>B16 NA or boost doesn't matter.

Have you ever had a fast car? My CRX feels fast as hell with 297WHP. I don't have any track times yet but my Mustang runs mid 11's @120mph and The CRX doesn't feel a whole lot slower.

I'm honestly looking to out perform a 2000 camaro ss. I think my budy is making around 350whp so I figured build something that can handle around 400 so as the need for more sets in that we all get I could just upgrade turbos and turn up the boost. I actually figured on keeping it around 250-280 for a while just to get our cars close. Realistically the Turbo I have is only good for around 200 and has like no top end. I am planning on buying a hx35 Turbo at some point. I just didn't want to have to build the block twice lol
I'm hoping that need for more will stop at 400 =P
As for fast cars my fastest car wasn't that fast just quick. I had a 86 fiero that topped out at 90mph but got there damn quick lol
I have a friend with a Nova that makes around 1100hp and it scares the hell out of me.

he may have a Camaro with 350whp, but remember Power to weight ratio. You don't need more power than him to beat him.

I figured a b16 would be a easier swap being the same size motor. Although I may be wrong. The other thing is finding a b motor witch didn't seem easy in central MI.

Head over to the FI forum and take a look at the builds in there.
You can do it on either block.
I think you might be able to do it cheaper using a D-series Vitara build.
Easy and cheap to replace after you blow it up.

Either way, the turbo alone is going to be $$$.
If you got the $ then go B series. Better platform to build on.

I've Sean the hx35 turbos go for around $300 sometimes as much as $400. I've also been told they can make like 500hp and 30psi of boost.

Actually the b16 can handle more boost than the b18 with stock sleeves so if you want to boost high then b16 is better than the b18.

^^ trueee ^^ I loved my jdm b16 from the xsi integra in japan that trans is great for n/a but the thing ripped stupid ...top speed 110...that trans is not good for boost tho motor would need new pistons for a high boost setup .
