Default shifter cable question

Hello,

been posting here with little luck.

basically got an 02 honda that has been sitting a long time. close to 10 years.

would not crank, figured it out. shifter cable is pulling out at the transmission.

if I push it in, the car will shift one time then will not go back to park.

any idea how this is supposed to stat together?

thanks in advance.

Are you sure that is your problem? If the car is off usually it won't let you change gears or start the car, it has to be in either N or P to start it too.

Unbolt it and have someone change the gears (this with the car battery in the ON position) and look at it see if it moves the mechanism. But first see if you can actually shift gears; put the car to the ON position and then try, it should work.

Maybe you need to JB weld that thing back on. On my 91' accord that things made of aluminum and won't break like that plastic does. If mine ever did break I am sure it would cause some problems though. You gotta take it off and replace it would be your best solution. JB weld may work for a while but you'll have to do a good job at applying it.

with the bracket bolted to the trans, the cable definitely moves. It will push the cable out of the bracket, not the cable in the transmission.

car will start with shifter in park and the cable pushed all the way into the trans.

I know that's what I thought, why would somebody leave a car like that just sitting for so long!

I saw a coupe cb7 accord with leather interior the other day and it made my mouth water. Just putting that out there I know the Honda peeps on here like to hear of such things, it gets the juices flowing.

EDIT: By the way I am a Christian so would you please not take the name of our Lord in vain? That name is not to be abused like that, it is a powerful name, all powerful. Powerful not in the religious connotation but in the spiritual/mystical one.
