Default detonation with nitrous?

when you are running nitrous is it possible to detonate? i was told by someone that if you run nitrous it wont detonate because it is so cold. also i am planning upping the compression on my ls and run a bottle and someone sad that i would detonate becuase of the compression. i was just wondering if there is any truth to that?

how do you think people crack the welds on their manifolds?

does anyone know how to calculate/approximate effective compression on a N2O motor?

::edit:: you'd need to figure out what the effective compression is to figure out how likely you'd be to detonate on pump gas (or whatever you're running)

for forced induction effective compression = ((boost/14.7)+1) * static compression...so, you might be able to fudge it by saying effective compression (((nitrous shot/10)/14.7) +1) * static compression, assuming 1lb of boost = an additional 10hp... this could be completely wrong, but ya know

how does nitrous detonate when its so cold???? isnt detonation caused by heat? and preignition

A car will detonate on nitrous.
If the car is detonating do this
1. turn back the timing
2. turn up the fuel pressure, higher octane
3. run a colder plug
4. either put a bigger fuel get or lower the nitrous get

When I first put in my nitrous, I used stock spark plugs, with stock timing and boned out up a hill. I had some detonation. I pulled out my spark plugs, and one was shattered.

the secret

plug 2 number colder
race gaz 100 octane
timing retard 2 degres

for the fuel pressure depends if its a wet or dry kit

Just because you admit it......

Detonation- because a nitrous injected engine burns so much faster and hotter than an air/fuel charge it will go into detonation at the same timing than would be perfect for just gasoline and air. So on nitrous motors, a timing retard from 2-12 degrees total advance is needed. Nitrous detonation is much more severe than the normal "ping." It's shockwaves have the capacity to bend rods and crack piston tops. Another thing is that most people don't know what they're hearing. Nitrous detonation sounds more like the distant rumbling of thunder than elves with little hammers banging around under the hood. The bummer about a nitrous motor is the fact that it needs two timing curves. One normal and one about, for a 50hp shot for a fiero, 2-3 degrees retarded. So under normal conditions it makes the car sluggish and causes decreased fuel economy.

Thank you for your honesty.

When people say retard 2-3 degrees. (maybe I didn't understand your post)
That means 2-3 degrees retarded from stock timing right? That's what I've always done. So like 14degreees BTDC right?
