Default Turbo smoke , new rebuild, old turbo

t3/t4 turbo lsvtec

gsr head, redid the valve guids because of black smoke on decel, they had play..

No smoke when idle, leak down test is good across the board...

running around 11.0 aFR on a uego wideband at idle

tune is off a little, running idle kicks up to 2K before coming to a stop in neutral
it sees around 10.2-10.5 AFr

concern is washed rings possibly?

the smoke is white though, which is confusing, because i thought only radiator fluid being burnt is white,

HOWEVER i need a confirmation, possibly old turbo is going, someome stated that hot side leaking can produce a white smoke from burnt oil.

Oil drain is fine not backing up, have feeder restrictor... I am getting tuned tommorrow, little concerned... please let me know, ty...

1000 miles on rebuild using 5w30 oil non synthetic at the moment...

looking for some answers any help is appreciated ty.

your tuner will be PISSED at that with you showing up with smoke all over the place on a previously bad tune.. way to go..

Just postpone the tune until you solve the problem. You're just going to make a bad situation worse.

And its not smoking at idle or under normal driving . No smoke during deceleration ..... only when boosting hard and its not that much .... might be normal to smoke a little bit ? 3" dumptube to open y pipe ?

A tuner will NOT want to tune on a car who's turbo is smoking, that can lead to a bad tune and aggravate other issues. A car that comes in that is not mechanically sound in many places, sees the front door before they even come in.. its a waste of the customer's time and the tuner's time.

You can't TUNE OUT Mechanical issues. I've said this many times.

Not if the smoke is WHITE or Blue... If its BLACK, that means its just rich.. but this hints of a BAD ending.

Rule of thumb before you get your vehicle tuned

MAKE SURE IT'S OPERATING AT 100% WITH NO ISSUES!

Like Shodan said
Tuners get upset if your car is leaking or having some issues before the tune job. If I was the tuner I would just charge you more to teach you a lesson.

There's an un named shop that sold and tuned a smoker turbo on a neon... Supprising the car now has other issues? Nope

I'm sorry, but that logic holds NO water... Just because that tuner decided to chance that doesn't mean that it should be done..

That's the tuner's problem to take that risk. He owner of the car takes the risk of it falling apart ON the dyno with an engine that is suspected to be damaged. As long as the owner signed the tuner's waiver ( a smart one would) then it's all on the owner

OK! made some good numbers today, Air fuel ratio stayed solid, hit the 300HP mark i was looking at on stock block and it still wanted to make more power.... fortunatly for me the smoking was intermittent, the turbo MAY be going bad.. seems at 12psi the turbo seems to be tired, it wines up but doesnt want to continue and it flattens out.... soo I will be hunting for a new turbo... ALSO found out that the dizzy is going... got new plugs and wires, sometimes would miss at high RPM... so i will be looking for a new one soon... I will go back and see if I can go over the 300hp mark later... for now I want to get used to this power and see how i can handle it. thanks guys! BTW shodan, your awesome, I have not been a member for long, but I have been reading alot of things that you post in the past and you seem to be the MAN! you are very knowledgable and experienced and I appreciate all your input. Ty again!
