Icon2 Every time I bump start my prelude the ABS light is illuminated

Like the title says my 98 Prelude seems to have an issue with bump starting, because every time I do so the ABS light is triggered and stays on without any codes being thrown. I only bump start my car since it sits in my driveway a lot more then it gets driven. And my car alarm kills the battery in about three days of sitting, so bump starting it is my only means of getting it to run while charging the battery.

Is there anything I should be doing/trying to get this ABS light to go off since it is an intermittent problem? I have cleaned and checked all my wheel sensors and have gone through all the fuses on the car and came up with nothing. Unless its the ABS motor relay that is in the under hood fuse box that has gone bad. Some help here would be great guys if at all possible thanks.

Never mind guys I think the issue is solve. I guess every time I bump start my car the jolt from it must tell the ABS system to kick on the ABS light, hence the no codes ever stored. All I did was reset the system by pulling my negative battery cable off for 30 seconds and checked for the ABS light upon start-up and it was gone. Thank GOD.

Good to hear you got it sorted out. Mine was staying on because the ABS pump crapped out but it is $$$$ to replace, and a friend who is a Honda tech said he can't legally disconnect the ABS light in the dash. A well placed piece of electrical tape behind the plastic lens on the dash over the ABS light cutout did the trick, cheap and easy. The electrical tape is opaque enough to totally block out the light so no more bright ABS light. All it cost me was 15 min and 1.5" or so of elect. tape

lol that is not "sorted out"

all you did was cover up **** with more ****. hahaha

btw low battery voltage can cause that light to come on also

There is a DTC on almost all ABS/VSA/TCS systems on Honda's that use the newer compact style ABS that can store a code for low battery voltage, it's probably what's happening.

Yes its because of low battery voltage. My viper alarm is drawing too much current and just leaving the battery without any juice to start my car. So I bump start it since I do park on my steep driveway. I know its not the best way to start my car but it works, but I will be buying an Optima Yellowtop battery for my car and never have another starting issue again.

Happened to my sister's civic once. Turns out you should probably ground the negative cable on another ground source other than the battery terminal.

Yes I do have and use my battery tender, I have used it for awhile for my issue. And yet the alarm still drains the **** out of my battery when my battery is at a full charge. And I am not talking about my car sitting for a week and its drained, it only takes two days for my battery to drain and not be able to start my car. I just am going to buy a yellowtop battery and call it a day. Also I am purchasing a new positive battery cable since it is old and loose, so it definitely needs replacing.

And Ludeact our negative battery cables are grounded to the cars core support not just the negative terminal.

Something isn't right with your alarm... It shouldn't be draining your battery that fast. Or your battery is toast anyways.

That's why factory alarms are better than aftermarket garbage, huge parasitic draw, you may not think so even if it's hooked up correctly but I bet if you hooked up a DMM in series with the ground cable you'd get an excessive amount of current flowing.

I agree something isn't right with my alarm, because it does drain my battery way too fast even my close friend who's company I bought the battery from says my alarm needs to be replaced, and or upgrade to an optima or odyssey deep cycle battery. So for now I guess I will get the battery, and then later when I can afford the factory alarm I will definitely be having one installed. Is the factory alarm really better then a viper alarm though?

I just don't see the point in having something that I'm sure you hacked into the factory harness to install when there is a plug and play OEM option. I don't even like aftermarket head units and stereo equipment for these reasons, none of my cars have any of that junk installed.

I'm sure someone is going to jump in and say Viper alarms and their unnecessarily loud sound system is awesome so you'll have to make your own choice. If you want to keep it though you definitely need to have it wired up better and if possible without hacking up your OEM wiring.

No sir not me I didn't hack into my factory harness, the dipshit I bought car from had the viper alarm installed. He was so stoked to show me that when its armed/locked ,the alarm rolls up any window that's down including the sunroof. I think its pretty cool, but I really would like to have the oem alarm installed on the car. As far as the stereo head unit goes I do have an aftermarket one but I don't think my issue with battery draining lies there. I did go ahead and buy an optima battery and get it this Saturday, so I am hopeful it will help with the draining issue.
