Tried Every Trick...Axle will not release
I've done a search and read several posts about removing stubborn axles and it still will not release. I don't know if the retaining clip is bent or what to do at this point. I've tried rotating the axle a bit, putting it in neutral, using a slide hammer, yanking on it, cussing, etc. The only thing I haven't tried is hitting it from the drivers side where the axle is removed. It is an LSD unit which I also read can be tougher.
I don't care about the driveshaft seal because I'll replace it anyways but am I harming the transaxle by yanking and pulling on the axle? What could be causing all of this trouble!?

Is it an OBX LSD? They're notorious for that. I would take the axle out of the other side and knock the one that's stuck out with the punch as it's the easiest and safest way to do it without damaging the trans case.
Thanks for your reply. No, it's just a stock Honda transaxle.
You said you use a punch? It would need to be quite long to reach the other side, wouldn't it? I will try it but am a little worried about punching into something critical.
I guess if I go straight in it will be alright?

Harbor freight sells some dirt cheap long punches (a set).
You could have a worn pinion shaft causing the axle to stick.
From Helm manual:
Try to get a prybar/large screwdriver on each side (180 degrees) of the CV cover and pry the axle end out with an alternating wiggling action (to "line things up") and/or simultaneous pressure on both sides (to exert straight-out force on the axle end without cocking it sideways). This has always worked on stubborn axles in my experience. Be aware that the axle will fall in your face (support it with some wire or something).
