when i go out to start it, it will start then it dies, i do not hear the fuel pump prime. and after a few tries it starts and runs. i noticed that the person that owned it before me had the main relay unbolted and hanging. and before these problems that started yesterday, the car would start everytime with no issues and stay running until the point where i shut it off. and another question of mine is, what main relays will work in a 91 crx si?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

 

pretty sure you can buy those relays from autozone, or advace auto. they don't call it a main relay though. they call it something else, which i don't remember, but it works, and is about $60, if i remember right? also, pretty sure any main relay from 89-91 would work. don't quote me on that last part cause i don't remember.

 

appreciate it man. but my main concern is, is that the issue? im hoping it is, i just want other opinions. i know you guys are knowledgeable, as am i lol. i just like to take other peoples advice that knows about this as well into consideration for multiple possibilities.

 

I pulled my main relay from my 91 crx si and i took it apart and i could see where the solder joints where cracking so i just got the solder iron out and reflowed all the solder joints. Ive not had a problem with it again and its been 3 years now. Worth a shot and wont cost anything but time as long as you have a solder iron.

 

What you did is what I have read on other Civic forums is the common fix. On my 90 Civic LX I just replaced it with a main relay from NAPA.

 

I know u could use a relay from a da integra I've got one in my 91

 

well you stated in your first post that the fuel pump doesn't prime all the time. that would lead to ether main relay (which usually is the problem with these years of honda's) fuse is bad (doesn't really apply because your pump does prime, and when it runs, it's fine) or fuel pump is dieing (saving that for last, because that's the most expensive thing to replace.)

also, if you don't hear the main relay clicking when you are trying to start it, means the relay is probably not working well anymore.

 

well friends, i went to the junkyard today and pulled to main relays and tried them to no prevail. i also pulled a fuel pump just in case. so after tryin the main relays, and them not working, i then used a voltmeter. at the wires right at the pump had 12.6volts each time. and the pump is not priming at all today.....i know what it is, but i just like to hear other people say their opinions, so if your reading this..........

 

have you checked fuses?

and you should always be iffy when buying electrical at a yard. never know the condition.
make sure the relays don't look like this on the inside,


if both those look good, then yea. you might have to try that pump you got at the yard

 

now ive discovered that im getting no power at the wire that goes into the main relay. pin 7 to fuel pump. where does that power come from?cand why isnt it there? or what can i leach power from safely to power the pump?

 

have you checked under the hood, in the main fuse box, to make sure all the plugs are still connected, and that no fuses are blown?

 

all fuses good, no disconnceted wires. how do i check for bad ecu on ls vtec head p72-1 b18 gsr integra engine??

 

You have battery power to relay on pin 1, right? With old OEM ECU, you would have power to A13 and 15 with key in Ignition position. With key in start position, you would get power to pin 7 on the main relay and A12 and 14 at the ECU.
