because then they won't have a full flat circle to set right when installed, and can slid off to one side and **** **** up

Not a good idea...spend the 160-200 bucks on lowering springs and do it the right way. Cutting them makes them uneven and as Fliptard says u will **** **** up..its been done many times and never turns out to be worth the effort.

This trick works a lot better on older rwd domestics for the front only. I've done it on stock class circle track cars mainly for the handling benefit when you cut the springs different amounts per side. On a street car it's just not a good idea. If you still plan to go this route, use a cutoff wheel on a grinder or a sawzall. It you cut them with a torch they will become brittle and they WILL break. And never use a torch to heat the springs for a drop. Again they WILL break.

The reason it is not a good idea is that these are progressive rate springs, unlike the linear rate springs of the older domestic "Gas Monkey type cars. Once you cut a few coils off of a progressive rate spring you drastically change the characteristics of the spring. It will no longer act properly and will adversely effect the way the car handles. and if I'm not mistaken you would have to cut 2-3 coils to actually get a significant drop. Therefor your ride would suffer as well as handling.

A linear rate spring can be cut with little to not change too the characteristics of the spring.
