Hello there Honda Tech. I have an issue with my wheel being pushed back on the passenger side on my 2000 Civic EX.

I had lost control of the car with a passenger which caused me to go over a curb at about 40 MPH which is what caused the wheel to get pushed back only on the passenger side.

I was told it was the lower control arm, replaced that still set back. replaced the knuckle assembly still set back, Just replaced the Sub-frame that i picked up from a junk yard and it still sits back.

what else could i be missing the would cause the wheel to sit back?

 

Strange, that's pretty much that whole corner's worth of suspension minus the strut and upper control arm.

 

That's what i thought, I replaced the struts as well on all four wheels. is it possible that the body could be damaged enough to do that?

 

Possibly, but I would think a bent body would not bolt back to a straight subframe w/all the fasteners. Does the pass door still open/close normally? Does the hood open/close/line up normally w/ the fender?

 

Everything seems lined up, i guess i might have picked up a sub-frame that could potentially be bent as well. but i did have an issue with one of the screws that hold the clamp on the Lower Control Arm on the sub-frame not going in all the way so i didn't put that screw in

 

Did you bolt the control arms to the subframe first and then to the body? Or did you mount the subframe to the body first and then the lower control arm to the subframe?

Did the car that the subframe came off in the junkyard have the wheel and tire on it? Or was it already removed?

 

I bolted the sub-frame first, then the lower control arm. I picked up the sub-frame removed already

 

Just take it to a shop that deals with straightening frames and let them look at it. It's obvious you cannot spot what the source of the problem is with the naked eye.

 

I've dealt with this issue before. Friend lost control of his Civic in wet weather and hit a curb on the driver side. Turned out this piece was bent a little bit, significant enough to cause a noticeable difference in wheel placement.

Everything you have posted sounds like this part is whacko.

 

Ya, that's what takes most of the impact in curb fights. Curb always wins. Lower control arm, that's a heavy hit, too.

 

OP, can you post an image showing the wheel pushed back?

Not sure if it matters or not but i measured the distance from the front lower control arm mounts to the rear of the sub-frame, they measured the same on both sides. so i think im safe to assume that the sub-frame is still good and that maybe my control arm is bent.

 

More than likely, it only takes the slightest bit of bend in that control arm to make a big difference @ the wheel. The picture of the two stacked up shows a really hard hit. That's a big bend compared to yours. Its hard to see it w/o a straight one to reference nearby. Edit: its designed so the control arm bends/breaks before the impact affects the subframe. I'm sure the subframe is fine.

 

On a side note, invest in some new tires. That looks unsafe.

 

Thanks for the note, I just changed them yesterday, I go through tires every couple months since this is the main issue causing the alignment to be off

 

I know this is some years later lol but did you ever figure out the issue? Was it the subframe? I have this same exact thing going on right now. Besides this my car is mint with mint interior, hard to come by these days so I want to save it lol

 

I dont have the car anymore but the frame was bent, Had it pulled which corrected the issue. I had replaced all suspension components such as the strut, upper and lower control arms, knuckle, and multiple subframes. Nothing fixed it until pulling the frame straight.
