OBD1 Mystery Code
So I did some good ol' cleaning and sanding and replaced a bunch of 10 mm bolts to freshen up the bay a bit. I unhooked the negative battery cable to replace the ground bolt. After I had everything done and made sure the engine was running I got in and checked for codes. Normally I get a Code 17, which is the VSS, and I ignore the hell outta that. But today I was in for a surprise. After I turned the key to ON when the CEL normally goes out and starts flashing it got a little brighter and stayed on, and the SRS light started flashing and wouldn't stop. What does that mean? I drove it around for a good 10 minutes hoping that maybe the ECU would refresh the codes (I had unhooked the ground, don't forget), and I did it a second time and got the same results.
PS to grumblemarc and Bswapped92: after doing all of this my stereo is no longer having problems, but... we will see.

Chill out.
When the CEL is not on without jumping the service connector, the CEL will remain on steady when you jump the service connector, indicating that no codes are thrown.
Like the CEL, the SRS blinks airbag codes when the service connector is jumped.
All this information is covered at the Codes link in my signature.

I'm looking this over but I'm not sure how to use the chart. The ECU codes are quite simple to comprehend, long dash = 10 and short dash = 1. So how does this work exactly? Because my pattern doesn't match any of the descriptions. It is just on off on off on off about 2 cycles per second, without any variation in speed or timing. Just your basic on off on off.

Okay. I read it through the ENTIRE SRS portion of the thread, post 4. I still don't get what is going on. It also said 96-98 models, and it MAY work for 94-95. Mine is a 95, perhaps it's not the right way?
I already said it before. It's a very regular on off flashing. No irregular flashing, just a half second on half second off half second on half second off, non stop. No SRS light when the service connector isn't jumped, no CEL. It is very regular, and it never stops.

Just reset the SRS control unit to clear the code.
I give up. There's too much information presented at one time in these pictures. I'd understand it better if it was organized in a table rather than a line where time is plotted on the x axis. Whatever...
But given that the SRS light is off without the service connector jumped, then an old code that is no longer an issue is stored in the SRS control unit. Just reset the unit to clear the code(s), and you should be good to go. All covered in the diagrams - simple.
