Default b18b block question

Straight to the point. I heard that 95 and below blocks don't need a breather box in the back of the block... and if that's the case then why does it have the breather tip on it?

I haven't touched a b series in years, but that appears to be for a coolant line

The hex bolt is a plug.

The hole is for a block heater.

This is my first build so the block heater? What hose connects to it? I know its prob a silly question, but I'm still learning.

well... that's why I'm asking the questions so I can learn. I read familiar topics on this site and other form sites and there always seems to be someone saying something else... I know that they changed the block after 95 and I've done the research that 94 and 95 b18b blocks doesn't tell you the year on the bottom near the tranny side... So I rather be safe than sorry.

Decent questions but still search as much as you can. Red, that one seems hard to search for though since it is image related.

i dont know where you all are getting coolant from but people who turbo b18's and use AN fittings take the hex plugs out to install AN fittings to the catch can like here: the freeze plug is below the right PVC hex plug.. you can see it better in my picture

I stand to correct myself.

The block heater goes in the hex plug to the left of the oil filter...

holy crap so much nonsense in this thread.

if that is a b18b block, you have a 94-95 block. the nipple up top is for the hose on the top black box. the large hole on the bottom is where the black box goes in.

unless someone decided to convert their obd2 block to use the pcv box.

Okay thanks. I didn't think the hose was long enough to go there. I'm still gathering up parts. I only need that and the sensors on the left side of the oil filter is what I only need to get for the build.
