Hy everybody, this is my first post here (not counting the introduction).

I recently bought a 2007 Honda VFR 800 and of course the first thing I did was to change all the fluids in the engine.

But I'm not sure if I did a smart or a stupid thing when changing the coolant. The coolant that was in the bike was dark blue-green in color, still looked ok but i didn't know how long it's been since it was changed, so i flushed that out and cleaned the cooling system with distilled water. The part I am having doubts about is that I put in a red, so called G12, coolant back in the bike. And now I'm reading that some people had problems with those red coolants, albeit in cars.

The owners manual says that you should put "ethylene glycol antifreeze (silicate-free) for aluminum engines in 50/50 solution". On the label of the coolant I bought (btw. it's shell glyco) it says that it's silicate free, for aluminum engines and it's made of 75% ethylene glycol. It's a concentrate so i mixed it 50/50 with distilled water. As far as i can understand it those red G12 coolants are made for aluminum engines so i see no reason why i shouldn't put it in my bike.

So finally i think i did everything right but i would like to hear more opinions to put my mind at ease. Did i do a stupid thing by putting in a red coolant and do i need to change it out, again?

if you used aluminum friendly Silicate free coolant, you are fine.

Makers put dyes in coolant for marketing reasons... don't judge a coolant by it's color.

Did you bleed the system sufficiently after refilling?

 

Yeah i bled the system. It's pretty easy to do on this bike. Thanks for the answer.

 

Honda has some blue-green coolant these days. I just had some put in my Civic.

 

Yes, that would be what I flushed out.
