Default First Honda - Major problems, please help

Hello, new to the Honda scene. Just bought my first honda. It's an Eg6 with a JDM B18. It came with a GSR head. I decided to swap it out for my friends motor that was fully built. Long story short, swap complete. Running really well. Drove off, not 5 minutes into my trip. The engine stalls, attempt to start. NOTHING..... I look down, temp is pinned in H. Overheated!!. Looking back, I heard a sporadic click from around the timing belt. It was the water pump. I changed the water pump. I know everyone is thinking, why I didn't change out the water pump on a new fully built motor. I can't answer that...... I now have a new motor with a bad ticking sound. I am hoping it is just the bearings. I ordered new ones. Going to drop the pan and girdle and go in on saturday. Anyone able to offer any insight or help?

Yes, I now consider him a "friend"..... Listen, I am a novice at best. I should have never started something without any knowledge of what I was getting into. I know everyone is dieing to tell me how stupid I was.

Please, I just need help. Do you mind telling me what valve tap is? I obviously don't know what LASH is. If you can help, I would be forever grateful. I have time to not buy the main bearings.

Does the ticking come from the top of the motor or towards the bottom?

Not sure, possibly from the top. I tried to locate the origins of the sound but the exhaust drowns it out. Thanks for the response speedjunkie.

If it is from the top then it is a simple and very cheap job. I paid $15 for the tool but it can be done with out. There are several tutorials showing detailed instructions on how to adjust the valve lashing.

Some clearance got too tight as the disimilar metals in the engine expanded at differing rates, causing the engine to seize, this in conjunction with watery thin cooked oil (from overheating) probably took out a bearing or two. Cylinder walls probably warped too. W/o hearing it my guess is that it is a ticking time bomb and needs to be completely replaced.

Sorry dude. Have a couple beers for me

here's a great vid for a "DIY" by ETCG feeler gauge+tool=you'll be out maybe 20-25$. it gives a ticking/tapping noise as you described don't think you'll need to go at the bottom end.

How To Adjust Valves Honda B18C VTEC 4 Cylinder -EricTheCarGuy - YouTube
Yeah, I am going to have to post a video. I am pretty sure I toasted a bearing or two. Not sure if the whole motor is toast. I literally ran the motor down the street and back. Ran fine after I ran more coolant.

pop the Valvecover and check clearances. drain the oil and look for shavings. I would swap back to the other motor. pull it apart and check everything out. were u running a tuned ecu?

No, stock ecu. Already sold the other motor. Have a spare LS sitting around.
