Default Honda Accord 05' water pump

Hello everyone,

I have a Honda Accord-V6-Automatic-93k miles. Does anybody have an idea on how long the water pump for this car last?

Thank you everyone in advance!

The water pump (on V6 engines) is usually changed, when the timing belt replacement is done. That should be done when the car reaches 105k miles, or 7 years, whichever comes first. I waited till my 03 was 8 years old, with 94k miles.

Honda service told me that the water pump failure wouldn't hurt timing belt and therefore, not a risk to the engine valve train. They recommended inspection at 105k and replace only if needed. I have 134k on my 2007 v6 and will probably replace the water pump at the next timing belt change over 200k just to be on the safe side.

Sounds great. But, if the water pump goes out at 150k miles it will cost you a bundle just in labor to change it. Do you feel lucky?

Agreed. You're money (and peace of mind) ahead to do it right, at once. Whatever dealership said water pump failure wouldn't affect the valve train was true in the sense that maybe it wouldn't lock your cams, but it has the potential to jump teeth (1 or 2 is enough to do damage) resulting in possible interference, aka expensive upper cylinder work (I've bent a few, say 48 valves or so). Also the dealer forgot to mention water pump failure may result in overheating.. also potential engine damage.

I just replaced my timing belt and water pump @ 102K. The water pump looked new and the bearing felt the same as the replacement Aisin pump. I have a feeling that these water pumps could last >200K or two timing belt change intervals. There was no corrosion/buildup at all; my car has seen 80% highway driving since new.
