b18c in crv
hey i already have a b20z. would it be easier to vtec or turbo a b20b block over the b20z block? if so would you suggest just buying a b20b block and working from there?
thanks

Honestly I don't see how a B18c can make a CRV lots of fun to drive when I have a B20Vtec with 12.1:1 compression and it's still slow as hell. I guess I might just be too use to driving turbo cars that N/A motors in heavy SUVs makes for no fun for me.
These are the numbers the have on the 1st gen CRV on zeroto60times.com
1997 Honda CR-V 0-60 mph 11.8 Quarter mile 18.5
1999 Honda CR-V EX 0-60 mph 8.5 Quarter mile 16.5
If you watch that video that was posted earlier the 0-60 is still around 10-11 seconds. Granted he's not the best shifter in the world but still. So it almost seems like the B18C inside that crv with the drop in torque has slower get-up than the B20Z. The noise and vtec kick sure does make it seem fast though. ofcourse everything is always skewed whichever way when you talk about this kind of stuff.

Yeah that's me driving my crv. #realworld
No times on my crv. You don't put one in a crv because you want to go fast. A GSR in a lighter body is still not very fast. You do it if you just wanna have a little more fun.
LOL...why in the world would you want to put a GSR transmission in a CRV? Gearing is about the same and a CRV has a cable shift linkage. Please stop speaking nonsense and giving false info if you don't even own a CRV
Gotta think long term. Are you gonna boost or Na? Best bang for your buck would be to throw on a vtec head, torque of the b20 n top end of a gsr. If you can get a gsr tranny that would be huge too. If you ever want to go turbo gsr is better than b20. However if you want big power you will have to sleeve any motor so in that case i would just keep the b20. Or, build a b18b. Sleeve it, Rs/Ps, the whole 9 yards. Pull your stock motor, dont touch it just in case you ever want to put it back in and sell the car stock. I think you should list a power goal and then we could find the best way to get you there. Many great minds on this site just gotta know what you want.
I guess you did ask a simple question we just digressed. I think a gsr might be a tad faster than a b20, but maybe just barely. B20 will pull it hard off the line. From a roll in 2 crvs with identical weights and identical drivers the gsr would slowly walk away. If you are trying to be a little fast do the common bolt ons, gsr head, decent cams, gsr tranny, tune it and be done.

Im putting a GSR into mine for the ease of putting a quife into it.
Yeah I can understand where you're coming from LD, however there's a lot more than just dropping it in which is what he was pretty much referring to. Not to mention, there's no added benefit with gearing dropping in a GSR transmission vs the CRV.
To be honest, I didn't read it. Too long. Lol
