Hi guys,

My 1992 Civic VX won't crank.

It is almost completely stock, except for a few minor modifications that are mostly unrelated.

Anyways, basically the problem is that the car won't crank it all. Turn the key and nothing. The starter doesn't even try...

-The battery is fairly new and I checked the voltage with a multimeter, and it is providing the proper voltage.
-I checked the power wire to the starter with a multimeter, and it had good continuity.
-I ran a direct hot line to the starter, and it still did nothing...
-The clutch interlock switch is bypassed, so that is not the issue.
-I have push started it several times, and it runs fine after that.

Now for the weird part... when I hold the key to the start position, and have someone wiggle wires randomly down near the starter, the starter will randomly spring to life sometimes, and when it does, the car starts up fine and runs fine, but will not start back up after that.

Initially I thought it was the starter, but now I am not so sure... any ideas?

 

Starter. Have it tested.

 

Agree. Also test/check/clean your grounds. I had a problem just like that. Turns out that the stock anti theft system (which want hooked up to power but still the vehicle) had ended up grounding out on the firewall causing a short. When it shorted out the starter immobilizer was activated.

I removed the dash and any and all wiring having anything to do with it and she has ran/started **** every time.
